If there’s one thing Young Sheldon does better than any other sitcom on television, it’s planting emotional landmines. We all know where Sheldon Cooper ends up (Pasadena, California, with a show about physics and a cat named after a comic book villain). But watching how he gets there is the magic trick.
Sheldon finds the chalkboard where he will eventually win a Nobel Prize. He touches the chalk dust. Mary asks if he’s okay. Sheldon replies: “I’m not okay, Mom. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be.”
