The jawbreaker flew true. For one perfect moment, it was a miracle of kinematics. It struck the Yoo-hoo box with a wet thwack . The box erupted. A geyser of chocolate-flavored high-fructose corn syrup exploded upward, then rained down directly onto Dustin’s head.

Dustin was, as advertised, a giant. He was fourteen, with the neck of a fire hydrant and the intellect of one, too. He held a store-bristed wrist rocket, loaded with a paintball.
