Executive Summary Wake timers are a power management feature in Windows 11 that allow scheduled events to bring the computer out of a low-power state (Sleep, Modern Standby, or Hibernate) to perform a task. While essential for maintenance, updates, and user convenience, poorly configured wake timers can lead to unexpected battery drain, overheating in laptop bags, and disruption of power-saving strategies.

Set wake timers to “Important Wake Timers Only” for most laptops on battery, and Disable if you experience unexplained overnight wakes. Always use powercfg /lastwake to identify the culprit before changing global settings.
