Taken 2008 !!link!! Now

So here’s to 2008. The year I learned that even when life takes from you, you can still take the shot.

Yes, things were taken in 2008. But pictures were taken too. Memories were held. Small joys were captured.

That’s the thing about the word “taken.” It implies loss — but also preservation. taken 2008

But looking closer at those grainy digital photos from 2008 — cheap digicam, bad flash, too much grain — I see something else.

Keep the photo. Keep the memory. Keep going. So here’s to 2008

I came across an old folder on my hard drive today, simply labeled:

wasn’t just the year I clicked a shutter button. It was the year things were taken from me. And the year I took things back. But pictures were taken too

But then it hit me: “taken” can mean something else entirely.
