Plot-wise, "Uncontrollable Forces" is a slow burn. It isn't about the villain of the week; it is about the villain in the biopsy report. The 720p format does justice to the intimate close-ups—especially the cracks in Tyler Hoechlin’s stoic face as he realizes he cannot punch his way out of this problem.

In 720p, the film grain (a stylistic choice for the show to feel cinematic) is preserved nicely. The H264 encode handles the dark scenes well. Watch the scene in the barn between Clark and Lois; the blacks are deep without crushing into macroblocks (those annoying squares you see in low-quality torrents). The bitrate on this WEB release is significantly higher than a standard HDTV broadcast, meaning the reds of Superman’s cape and the blues of the sky in Smallville don’t bleed together.
