Does it succeed? Mostly, yes—though this episode feels very much like a table-setting chapter before the main course arrives. The emotional core of this episode belongs to Clark (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch). Lois is still reeling from the reveal that she died in John Henry Irons’ universe, leading to some genuinely raw moments in the kitchen. “The Ties That Bind” is not an instant classic like Superman & Lois ’ best episodes, but it is a rock-solid character piece.
