Within ten minutes, the subreddit had a collective aneurysm.
Before you put on your cardboard box, let’s apply logic: Hayter is currently working on an indie horror game and an animated series. However, given that Konami just announced a "collaborative partnership" with a major Western studio for an unannounced "stealth action revival," the timing is too perfect.

One viral tweet from user @PhilosophersLegacy said it best: "Replaying MGS2 in 2026 is terrifying. It’s not about memes vs. genes anymore. It’s about who controls the 'context' of reality. Kojima was writing a documentary." This thematic revival might be more important than any remaster. Metal Gear Solid is no longer just a "stealth game series"; it’s become a primary text for understanding the anxiety of the 2020s. Is the franchise "back"? No. We will likely never see a Kojima-directed MGS6 . But the ecosystem is healthier than it has been in five years. We have Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater expected for a holiday 2026 release (with a demo allegedly dropping in June). We have Vol. 2 fixing the archival gaps. And most importantly, we have a fan base that finally stopped arguing about Kojima vs. Konami and started arguing about the lore again.
